I was sitting here, catching up on reading posts from the blogs I follow, leaving a few comments, eating sunflower seeds, sipping on iced tea, and listening to music.
Then, this popped up on my playlist, and damned if it didn’t make me cry. It always does. The crystal clear notes of her voice always move me, but, in this song, the longing in this song really gets me. I don’t think it’s necessarily a sad song — but it is beautiful, and her voice holding the notes on the word “helpless” just cuts through me and make the tears flow.
And, listening to kd sing reminds me of a story, from my dear blogging friend, Andrea — and, how kd took the time to pay a visit to Andrea’s 97-year old mother, who is a kd lang fan. You can read the story (in three parts): here, here, and here. The story of kd’s gracious gift to an old lady also makes me cry (well, part of it could be that my friend Andrea is a remarkable, wonderful writer), but, it also tells me that kd’s spirit is a beautiful thing indeed.
Take a listen to the song, then go read Andrea’s story.
Have a tissue handy.
